Last Friday I had my last day at my first grown-up job. I started working at Bank of America in 2012. After spending the majority of my twenties as an entrepreneur with various successes and false starts; I took a consulting gig with “Goliath National Bank” as a Front End Developer. It was a massive shock to my system, and I never thought I’d stick. Unexpectedly, I came to really love and appreciate my time with “the Bank”. I found some like minded partners and together we “crusaded” to transform this massive company into a technology shop that we could be proud of.

Looking back on the past six years, it amazes me how far we have come. Upending a 100MM platform, to bringing CDN to the mainstream, to introducing Node.js to the Bank. From a few scrappy developers to leading major functions across the digital technology space, we have accomplished far more than I would have ever dreamed.

I am tremendously grateful to the leaders and mentors I have had in my time at Bank of America. I would not have the opportunities I have today without their vision and leadership.

Despite all of the technical and transformational achievements; there is one area that makes me the most proud. In the last month, as I transitioned out of my role leading the “Sparta, Platforms, & DevOps” team, I have had time to reflect. I am so proud to have been a part of this team. It truly is a special group of people. There are millions (if not billions) of dollars spent every year by companies all over the world trying to realize the culture and effectiveness that this team achieved in less than a year together. I am humbled by how profound a privilege it has been to lead such a fine collection of people. I will miss all of you, and am excited to watch you do amazing things in your careers.

Turning the page, I started a new chapter. I was fortunate to be offered an opportunity to join the team at Passport Labs as the VP of Engineering. Passport is a young company by comparison, full of hope and promise. It is a coming home of sorts for me, as I dive again into a “startup” or “growth stage” company. My early days with this group have been thrilling. They have accomplished so much, and there is so much left for us to do. Transportation as we know it is on the cusp of its largest disruption since the introduction of the automobile. Passport is at the center of some of the key junctions in that revolution and we will be helping to define the future of mobility. I am thrilled to be a part of it, and if you’re interested in joining us on this journey, contact me, or check out our job board.
